Koraput: Enforcement squad of commercial tax and GST of Jeypore penalised a cashew kernel consignment worth Rs 2,34,492 on Saturday for transporting without an adequate waybill.
The vehicle, en route from Jeypore to Nagpur, was intercepted by the squad on Friday evening based on a tip-off. Upon inspection conducted in the presence of the consignment owners on Saturday, officials discovered that cashew kernels worth Rs 23,44,910 were being transported, while the waybill accounted for only 288 tins out of a total of 742 loaded on the vehicle.
“We were tipped off about the consignment, and accordingly, our team intercepted the vehicle on Friday evening,” said Akshay Kumar Mishra, assistant commissioner of commercial taxes.
“While checking the vehicle, it was found that it carried cashew kernels belonging to four to five traders from Jeypore, but lacked proper billing for a significant portion of the consignment,” he added.
The penalty was levied following the findings, ensuring compliance with transport and billing regulations, said S K Hansda, deputy commissioner, CT and GST, Jeypore circle.
